General English courses aim to improve the overall English level of participants in an interactive and communicative environment.

Each course helps develop the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. This is accompanied by regular grammar input, vocabulary building, and pronunciation activities.

These courses are delivered over 120 (3 x 40-hours modules). Levels are CEF A1, A2, B1, B1+,B2 & C1

ESP - English for Specific Purposes

English for Emails

Duration: 30 hours
Days: Sunday to Thursday
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Location: FCC or MLC 
Start Date: 1st December 2024
Level: B1 and above

English for Emails is designed for people who struggle to write emails in English at work.

This course focuses on a number of key areas and will help to develop:

  • techniques and strategies for writing and replying to emails quickly and efficiently in the workplace
  • ways of communicating appropriately and effectively via email
  • the content, register, language, style and format of your emails
  • the language used to request actions, determine formality and exchange information

Time will be spent throughout the course in the computer lab, practising email writing in ‘real-life’.  By the end of the course, you should see a distinct improvement in the emails you write, in terms of content, style and layout.

English for Presentations

Duration: 30 hours
Days: Sunday to Thursday
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Location: FCC or MLC

Level: B1 and above

English for Presentations is a practical course for people who have to deliver presentations at work.
The course progresses logically through the stages of a presentation:

  • Introduction
  • Main Body
  • Conclusion
  • Questions

The functional language required for each stage is explored in-depth so that by the end of the course, each participant will have a framework to help with any future presentations.
The course culminates in each participant delivering a presentation that has been put together during the course.

English for Meetings

Duration: 30 hours
Days: Sunday to Thursday
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Location: FCC or MLC

Level: B1 and above

English for Meetings is designed for people who have to attend meetings in English at work.  It will help you to develop the language required to:

  • chair a meeting correctly
  • participate in a meeting with confidence

It also covers a range of functions related to meetings such as:

  • writing and agreeing an agenda
  • scheduling a meeting
  • writing the minutes of a meeting
  • small talk

Time will be spent throughout the course role-playing meetings in order to build the confidence you need to participate in meetings at work.

 

Speaking/Conversation

Duration: 30 hours
Days: Sunday to Thursday

The EFL English speaking course aims to improve students’ oral communication skills in English by focusing on fluency, accuracy, and pronunciation. It seeks to build learners’ confidence in using English in everyday situations through interactive activities and real-life conversations. The course also aims to enhance listening comprehension, enabling students to better understand spoken English in various contexts. Another key objective is to expand students’ vocabulary and understanding of idiomatic expressions. Finally, the course strives to develop learners’ ability to engage in discussions, debates, and presentations, fostering effective communication skills for academic and professional settings.

Vocabulary and Speaking

Duration: 10 hours
Days: Sunday to Thursday
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Location: FCC or MLC

Level: A2 and above

This is a brand new course for Majnoon. It comes from getting feedback from our students and staff in the field. We’ll keep the first course short – just 10 hours. If it is a success, we will extend future courses.

Every lesson students will be presented with 7-10 words on a topic. At the end of each lesson they will be able to:
 
1. Spell the words
2. Pronounce words
3. Understand the meaning of the words
4. Explain the meaning of the words
5. Use the words in 2 written sentences
6. Use the words in dialogue and conversation
 
At the end of the 2-week course the students will have a word bank of 35-50 words that they can use in their work and daily life.
